Today, Runway announced it is joining the Cosmos Coalition, a global collaboration between world model builders, AI developers and physical AI leaders to advance the next generation of open world models. Runway joins as a founding member, working alongside NVIDIA and a set of leading AI labs to build, share and accelerate world model research and development through a common open ecosystem. The first project stemming from the coalition will be a base model codeveloped by Runway and NVIDIA.
World models are foundational to the future of AI, and this partnership builds on years of frontier research breakthroughs at Runway. The Cosmos Coalition is structured around shared infrastructure and mutual technical and ecosystem contribution. Working together, we’ll drive faster innovation and broader interoperability, giving developers an open model to build on and unlocking more rapid advances in physical AI.
"The future of AI will be built on world models. That's been the driving conviction behind Runway's research from the beginning, and it's why we're proud to help found the Cosmos Coalition alongside NVIDIA,” said Runway co-CEO Anastasis Germanidis. “Building these systems in the open, with a shared infrastructure and a community of researchers contributing back, is how we get there faster."
“World models are becoming a foundation for physical AI systems that can reason, predict and act,” said Ming-Yu Liu, vice president of Cosmos Labs at NVIDIA. “Runway brings deep research in generative video and world models to a shared effort to advance open models and tools for the broader AI community.”
